SWISSMAN aid projects in the Philippines and Nepal

After the postponement of the SWISSMAN 2020 to 26 June 2021, we received an incredible amount of very positive feedback. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your understanding and support regarding our relatively early decision. This means a lot to us and motivates us to push ahead with the planning for SWISSMAN 2021 with full commitment. We are already extremely looking forward to seeing you again at SWISSMAN 2021!

We would also like to thank you for your questions regarding the financial situation of our small event. We are happy to inform you that the deficit caused by the postponement is painful, but bearable. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our partners and sponsors for their loyalty and support!

You would like to support the SWISSMAN? We are very happy about that! You can do so easily by getting dressed in our online shop. We have great new items like hoodies, polo shirts and caps. Just take a look!

There are many who are in dire need of support. Among others, people in regions of the world who are dependent on tourism. The current standstill of international tourism hits them incredibly hard, as from one day to the next they no longer have work to support their families. For this reason, from 1 – 31 May, 10% of all our shop income will go in equal shares to two donation projects in Nepal and the Philippines. The two projects are very close to us, because they are members of the SWISSMAN family, who support affected families on site through their personal contacts.

Nepal

We reported on Facebook that Beat (President SWISSMAN) and Cornelia Stadelmann had fulfilled a long-awaited dream with a trip to Nepal last November. Overwhelmed by many impressions and encounters with the warm and humble people there, they came home.

Many people in Nepal can only buy food thanks to their daily work. The curfew, which is very strictly enforced by the authorities, further exacerbates the situation of poor families. Manoj Bakele, Beat and Cornelia’s guide, helps around 30 families in Kathmandu and the mountain villages in this precarious situation and provides them with rice and vegetables. With 30 Swiss francs support, a family can be supplied for a month. To support him, we have set up a donation link. Every contribution is gratefully accepted!

Philippines:

“These are extraordinary times, so we come with an extraordinary request.” Ruedi Bolliger (SWISSMAN finisher and crew member)

Ruedi in the Philippines

In June 2015, we welcomed Ruedi Bolliger with a lot of cowbell ringing at the stroke of midnight on Kleine Scheidegg. He then supported us twice as a crew member during the SWISSMAN before emigrating to the Philippines last autumn. Due to the current situation, he has now started a donation project:

“Tourism in the Philippines has come to a standstill due to the Covid 19 virus. This is also the case in Sipalay City, where we are at home. In our district, Barangay 4, there are 750 families who will be without income until the start of the new season in Nov/Dec. The people here live in the simplest of shelters in modest conditions. We have already been able to carry out a first campaign, and the gratitude was enormous. We distribute the rice privately but with the help of the Barangay Captain (mayor). A 50 kg bag of rice costs about 40 Euros. Since several generations usually live here in large families under one roof, this is enough for a few weeks. Therefore, we, and also our local neighbours, are happy about every donation! We thank you very much!”

Take-away Rias Kloten

Hansruedi Nef already took part in the SWISSMAN in 2019 and was on the start list again in 2020. When he is not training for the SWISSMAN, he runs a small gourmet restaurant in Kloten. Only recently he spoiled the whole SWISSMAN OC with his excellent cooking skills.
We are happy that he has now reopened Rias, even if only for take-away for the time being.

More information about the take-away, the gourmet Metzgete in October and much more can be found here: https://www.rias.ch/
