Due to the current situation regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, the organising team of the SWISSMAN Xtreme Triathlon is forced, with a heavy heart, to postpone this year’s edition of the SWISSMAN to next year.
Switzerland is in an extraordinary situation. As our health has top priority, all citizens are urged to stay at home whenever possible in the coming weeks. Despite the drastic measures taken, it is foreseeable that the situation will deteriorate further before it improves. When Switzerland will be able to return to its usual routine is uncertain and difficult to estimate. This situation affects more or less all of Europe and other parts of the world.
Insecurity at all levels.
Under these circumstances, it is difficult for the organisers to press ahead with the planning of the event and to obtain the necessary permits from the cantons and municipalities in time. This is currently affecting preparations in Ticino in particular. Furthermore, it is unclear whether the SWISSMAN medical crew will be ready for action in June in view of the high workload they will be exposed to in the coming weeks and months.
The situation of the athletes also played a role in the decision. Many of them are very limited in their preparations, which poses a safety risk for themselves and for the event, which the organisers do not want to accept. In addition, there are currently massive travel restrictions for an unforeseeable period of time, which further hinder the athletes in their planning.
Joint decision with Celtman and Xtri World Tour
In consultation and cooperation with their partner event Celtman Extreme Triathlon in Scotland and the Xtri World Tour, the organisation team has therefore decided with a heavy heart not to hold the SWISSMAN this year. The starting places of all athletes will be postponed until next year, 26 June 2021. The organisers and the entire SWISSMAN crew are looking forward all the more to holding the SWISSMAN 2021.
